Priority should be given to inmates with a history of mental illness, self-directed violence, recent stressors (e.g., losses, newly sentenced, etc.) It is recommended that a system of control be implemented explaining who will be notified when a Suicide Watch or Psychological Observation ends and how that communication will take place.
