The Canadian-born second-generation heir who expanded the Seagram Co. with oil, gas and chemical investments and served as president of the World Jewish Congress from 1981 to 2007. Died Dec. 21 at his home in New York. Mikhail Kalashnikov, 94. He was the Russian inventor of what would become the world’s most popular assault rifle, the AK-47. Died Dec. 23. Robert W. Wilson, 87.
