A NOTE ABOUT THE AUTHOR Edward Jay Epstein graduated from Cornell University and received a Ph.D. from Harvard. His undergraduate thesis on the search for political truth became a best-selling book, Inquest: The Warren Commission and the Establishment of Truth. His doctoral dissertation on television news was excerpted in The New Yorker and published as News from Nowhere. After teaching political sci- ence at MIT and UCLA, he became a full-time author. He won the © prestigious Financial Times/Booz Allen & Hamilton Global Busi- ® ness Book Award for both best biography and best business book for Dossier: The Secret History of Armand Hammer. He has writ- ten investigative pieces for The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, The Atlan- tic, and The New York Review of Books.
