Tropical Storm Maria: At 5=a.m. today, the center of Maria was located at 13.5 degrees North, 48.2 de=rees West or about 1,161 miles east-southeast of St. Thomas. A Hurri=ane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate Maria later today. Tro=ical storm force winds extend outward up to 115 miles from the cente=. On the forecast track, the cente= of Maria should pass to the northeast of the Virgin Islands on Saturday n=ght bringing tropical storm force winds to St. John between 2 and 8 pm and=tropical force winds to St. Thomas between 4 and 8 pm. As of now, the trop=cal storm force winds are not expected to impact St. Croix. When the storm=passes the territory, Maria will be of tropical storm strength with sustai=ed winds of 50 miles per hour. As it tracks to the northeast of the Virgin=lslands on Saturday night, the storm center should pass some 77 miles no=theast of St. Croix at 7 pm; 38 miles northeast of St. John at 8 pm and 48=miles northeast of St. Thomas at 9 pm.
