Our City's public safety is =ritically important for everyone, which is why I am proud to personal=y support the effort to enhance and improve our Ocean Drive entertain=ent district. like you, I hear the stories from too many residents who fee= they can no longer visit the area because they worry about their safety. =ore troubling is the fact that residents who live in the South of Fif=h corridor continue to experience growing challenges in their communi=y. We cannot allow a 10 block area which once was our pride and joy in the=Miami Beach renaissance story to become a source of negative international=and national news, which has the potential to damage our iconic Miami=Beach brand. When one area of Miami =each is affected, we all feel the pain. This is why we need to band togeth=r to embark on a path that really transforms the iconic Ocean Drive area. =et me be clear, though: By supporting this effort, I do not beli=ve we are (as has been alleged) destroying the local economy or takin= away the vibrant feel that Ocean Drive is known for around the world.&nbs=;In fact, the City Commission has done (and continues to do= quite the opposite. We are working to make it safer and enjoyable fo= residents and visitors alike. It is my opinion that n= good comes in the wee hours of the morning, especially when alcohol is in=olved. This is why I will be voting YES on #80 on =the November 7, 2017 election ballot. In my personal opinion,&nb=p;this is an important first step to curtail the crime we've seen ove= the years along Ocean Drive. I also believe that by rolling&nbs=;back the hours of alcohol sales from Sam to 2am on Ocean Drive,=from 5th to 15th Streets, besides reducing crime, we will a=so be able to redeploy our valuable police resources to other ne=ghborhoods where they can best serve our residents.
