That night, I went on Googl= and found out, for the first time, about his career, which began as a mem=er of first hired group of physicists at NASA in 1958 (to work on Project =ercury alongside Alan Shepard and John Glenn) and his work as one of the l=gendary "MAD scientists of MPD" in using plasma physics to=provide the rocket thrust to achieve reliable orbit; and culminated as the=technical head of the amazingly successful NASA/FAA effort to improve pass=nger aircraft safety.
