LIMITED OFFICIAL USE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE I OFFICE OF TINE INSPECTOR GENERAL MEMORANDUM OF INVESTIGATION Case Number: 2019-010614 Reporting Office: New York City Office Transfer of MCC New York SHU Video Footage On Friday, July 18, 2025, Special Agent (SA) S U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of the Inspector General (OIG), transferred a compact disc-recordable (CDR) labeled Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) UCFN: 90A-NY-3151227 "Footage from MCC DVR" to FBI In August 2019, the CDR was provided to the DOJ OIG from the FBI as part of a joint investigation into the death of inmate Jeffrey Epstein at the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) Metropolitan Correctional Center New York (MCC New York) in New York. Immediately after Epstein's death, the FBI had seized the MCC New York security camera DVR systems and the FBI Computer Analysis Response Team conducted a forensic extraction from the camera located near the entrance of unit 10 South that had recorded video from within the MCC New York Special Housing Unit (SHU). The CDR contained 11 MP4 files of video footage from within the SHU from August 9, 2019, at 9:00 p.m. through August 10, 2019, at 8:00 a.m. The DOJ OIG returned the CDR to the FBI after receiving a request from the FBI to locate the original copy of the video extractions they had conducted in August 2019. Prior to returning the CDR, SA DOJ OIG Cyber Investigations Office, made an authenticated copy of the CDR, and the copy was retained in the DOJ OIG case files.
