EZELL Sent: Thu Mar 26 10:23:47 2009 Subject: Judicial Nominating Commission Hi Kathy — I don't know if you are on the commission for the new federal district judge position that will be opening up in Ft Lauderdale (now that Judge Hurley has taken senior status), but I wanted to put my plug in for seeking out qualified female candidates. There aren't any women district judges north of the Miami-Dade County line, and there seems to be a strange two-track system (lots of women as magistrates, but none as district judges). From my experience, feminism is about 10 years or so behind down south — the old boys network is much more firmly entrenched up here — but it seems about time to shake things up. Judge Gonzales also is the only minority judge north of Miami-Dade, which is another issue, but I know asking for a two-fer is probably too much.
