She suffers from losing a daughter and grandson to anorexia and drugs and never quite looks into herself as someone who could have saved both of them with all her money or in spite of all her money. Jill Fairchild is hip, chic, smart and freshly divorced, so still pissed. She had the finest education and privileged upbringing, the perfect waspy boring married life in Bedford with Peter Melhado and three kids and can't seem to find the present road to happiness. I can only show her thru example that happiness is a compromise. Every minute you have to surround yourself with interesting people and be interesting yourself and happiness falls into place....WOW, how did I think of that? Anyway, I am running to have my face cleaned, my clothes altered for Paris and a car take me to Southampton for the weekend. This is happiness! Will call to tell about ten days on the Mediterranean around Sicily...and trip to Paris/Arles (cultural festival) July 5-12. Have a meeting with new editor of Town + Country, Stephen Drucker and Billy Norwich, new features editor (from Vogue) on Wednesday about me writing up Paris/Arles trip!!!! Not counting my chickens yet Supposed to go back to Denise Rich's boat July 22 in St. Tropez...being the ultimate "Yacht Slut" I am still looking for a better gig because it's only till July 25 and then I have inland to go to Terry's...and I would rather go someplace new and educational instead of party central. Need to get a good smaller camera. Took all the photos for Cannes myself with my old heavy Nikon. What do you know? Lieca for $2,300 is high. People say Canon for way under $1,000...like a few hundred is tops...I can call Bruce Weber, which is like calling Picasso and asking what kind of brush should I buy.
