Went to a private island today owed by charming handsome Italian, Giovanni Russo....Owns the most cheap hotels in Europe....the last word in romantic charm on a mountain top jutting out of the sea with an old stone tower that he lives in, and two stone/rock pools, 3 other houses filled with brilliantly multi- colored tile walls and a chapel...originally designed by Nureyev...he died before he finished it...you walk up a stone walkway to top of mountain and look over bay to Positano...and all the yachts stop by his island just to swim around it...unbelievable... He is friendly with Jim Clark from Palm Beach...had a few copies of his hugh book on the building of "Athena" his 300 foot sailboat.... This guy was very cool- had a set of drums in his tower he plays...has a rich (prosutto queen of Italy) sexy beautiful girfriend his age!!!! 60! NOT kidding. You have to love a rich Italian guy with movie star good looks and a girl his age. Something you could not relate to. He also built his own little chapel on a point that is all white with an old wood piano. I of course opened the book on the alter to see photos of all his dead relatives...just great. Found Harry Macklowe in Aurora Restaurant last night in town of Capri....casually invited him to the island today- he has a hugh racing sailboat- OF COURSE he came...everyone says he lost all his money and had to see the GM building- that's not the bad news. He has his first wife, Linda, who looks like a gnome or toad...just about the shortest, misshapen boring woman with a bad haircut and awful glasses....that you have every seen. What is he thinking? You could tell he was mirerable with this Linda and Giovanni was panting over his 60 year old blond salami royalty beauty. Mario D'Urso brought us all there. Ultra conservative Roberto deGuardiola has been slobbering over ultra liberal Kerry Kenndy ad nauseum....Robertos wife and I just go kayaking and laugh. Harry Benson, the photographer who was standing right next to Bobby Kennedy when he was shot and got those world famous shots of him bleeding to death on the hotel kitchen floor is on the boat too. His is the most annoying human being I ever met. Every word he utters is about some dam photo he shot of the Beatles in 1964....will not miss his humming Beatle songs too. More to come. Sort of sad to leave Italy...such a fun place... Why are Europeans so much more relaxed socially....and seem to enjoy themselves more.
