I know you are as concerned as we are about the tragedy at Sandy Hook School on Dec 14th. We must not let the victims and families be forgotten and we must pass legislation in Congress to never let this happen again. We are embarking on a fundraising effort to move gun safety reforms forward. We plan to support elected officials who will show courage and support (and opposing those who do not) for an assault weapons ban, outlawing high capacity clips and ammunition, closing the gun show loophole, and strengthening background checks. President Obama and Vice President Biden's press conference this week made it clear that change is on the horizon, but not without a challenge from the NRA We must MATCH the amount the NRA raises each year which means we must raise $10M now. EFTA_R1_00494619 EFTA01998907 Gayle and I and Marc and Lynne Benioff are each "investing" $500k in this effort and we want other families to match Success for us is moving the ball forward on gun safety legislation. That means helping to pass bills in the House and Senate. We will use our resources to directly support the members of Congress who will lead on this issue in the next few months and thereafter -- as long as it takes. Mark and Gabby's effort will be led by Gabby's longtime Chief of Staff, and she will be supported by Gabby's Finance Director. They have the experience to execute our fundraising and outreach strategies. There is formidable opposition on this issue from the NRA -- they spent $20 million in the last two year congressional election cycle, and we now know that they will not back down from this issue.
