A nice coincidence! I have been doing work in Africa with some of the world's experts on zoonosis..The majority of the emerging infectious diseases are of zoonotic origin — starting in an animal population and moving to humans. Think bird flu and ebola. I witnessed first hand the foot and mouth disease outbreak while living in England. It was thought to have cost the economy $16 billion in 2001. Things have only gotten nastier since then as people get on a plane and transport all sorts of viruses around the world. I am facilitating a research project in Cote d'Ivoire while pursuing various investments and my data science activities there. I have the support of President Ouattara and I'm working with Dr. Bonfoh at the Swiss Centre for Scientific Research (CSRS) in Abidjan. There's a lot more to describe.... but that could come later if this happens to capture your interest. In any event I'd love to attend your conference on Coping with Future Catastrophes and perhaps bring along some interesting scientists and bio terrorism experts once you decide where and when.
