Jeffrey Epstein Weebly Blog 3 FREEMAN 11-14-2012 Jeffrey Epstein: Science Funding The original goal of the Jeffrey Epstein VI Foundation was to support cutting edge science, scientists and science education. Support of the sciences is still a major part of the Foundation's mission. One of the main projects the Foundation has supported is the Program for Evolutionary Dynamics at Harvard University. Epstein started funding the Program with a $30 million grant in 2003. Dr. Martin Nowak Dr. Nowak serves as the Director for the Program for Evolutionary Dynamics and is a Professor of Mathematics and Theoretical Biology at Harvard. Under the program, Dr. Nowak looks at evolution from a mathematical and theoretical biology standpoint. This unique approach has allowed him to more closely examine the origin of life on Earth and RNA replication. In addition to his studies of evolution, Dr. Nowak has closely examined the role genetics play in a number of other cases. He conducted research in 1990 looking at the delay that occurs between a person contracting HIV and the onset of full blown AIDS. Other areas that Dr. Nowak has examined include: Game theory Pre-life conditions Evolution of language Evolution of fairness Genetic redundancy The Program for Evolutionary Dynamics has also studied the kinetic energy of human cancer cells. The program developed a mathematical model of this energy, which helps researchers and scientists better understand how cancer works and evolves. Other Scientists Epstein and his Foundation have also provided a great deal of financial support to a number of leading scientists, including Nobel Laureates. The Foundation has granted support to luminaries such as theoretical physicist, Stephen Hawking. Other well-known scientists include, Kip Thorne, Murray Gell-Mann, and Gregory Benford. The Importance of Conferences In addition to providing support to organizations and individual research projects, the Foundation also hosts a number of science conferences. Leading researchers and scientists gather at these conferences to discuss issues of critical importance for the modern world. A recent conference, for example, addressed the topic of Future Catastrophes. The conference examined the threat of nuclear calamities, bioterrorism EFTA_R1_00543663 EFTA02032823 and minimizing the impact of tsunamis.. Another conference studied the subject of gravity in depth. Another, the origin and nature evolution of human language. Conferences sponsored by the Jeffrey Epstein VI Foundation are widely attended by the best minds in science today, including numerous Nobel Laureates. The conferences allows Jeffrey Epstein and the scientific community to explore and expand on big ideas facing the modern world. The Foundation supports some of the most engaging and evocative scientific conferences in the world today. EFTA_R1_00543664 EFTA02032824
