Dan Ariely (born 1967) is an Israeli-American behavioral economist and author, the James B. Duke Professor of Psychology and Behavioral Economics at Duke University, where he founded the Center for Advanced Hindsight. He is widely known for popularizing behavioral economics through best-selling books including "Predictably Irrational" (2008) and "The (Honest) Truth About Dishonesty," and through his widely viewed TED talks. Ariely appears in the unsealed Epstein files within Jeffrey Epstein's science circle. DOJ-released emails (2011-2012) show Epstein scheduling a meeting with Ariely - in one September 2012 message Epstein wrote "have dan ariely at 6, gates at 7," referencing back-to-back meetings with Ariely and Bill Gates - and considering attending one of Ariely's TEDx talks.
He is not accused of any wrongdoing; his appearance reflects the overlap between Epstein's scientific-philanthropy interests and prominent academics.
